Another island located in the south of Koh Chang is a small crescent-shaped island called Koh Wai. It takes around 45 minutes on a slow boat or 20 minutes via speedboat from Koh Chang. Koh Wai is accessible from November to April. All operations are paused between May and October due to the monsoon season.

2.1. Klong Plu Waterfall

3. Experience Sacred Serenity
3.1. Wat Pai Lom
Located in Muang District of Trat, Wat Pai Lom is an ancient temple that is home to a Buddhist Garden for meditation and religious practice. Over 150 years, the temple was a residence of Phra Wimon Metajarn Warananakananurak, the Father of Education in Trat. This temple is an important place in local education as it is considered the first school in the province.
As you step into the temple grounds, you will find the Buddhist Garden which is a space for those who wish to peacefully meditate or practise religious rituals. The highlight of the temple is the Pagoda of the Three Revered Monks, marking a significant spiritual place for the locals in Trat. Featuring an octagonal base with a lotus bud spire, the structure of the pagoda is a distinct upside-down bell shaped with gold-plated Italian mosaic tiles.
Inside, the pagoda enshrines various Buddha relics, sacred remains, and ancient amulets. On the second floor, there is a local museum portraying the rich history of Wat Phai Lom.
3.2. Wat Yotha Nimit
Wat Yotha Nimit, also known as Wat Bot, is a historic temple established by King Taksin and it was completed in the reign of King Rama III. The government officials once used this temple as a place for the oath of allegiance ceremony during the era of King Taksin until the reign of King Rama V before they moved to Wat Phai Lom.
As the only royal temple in Trat, it has been an important temple for many Kings. All over the temple, visitors will find various monuments, ancient relics and artifacts, and fine murals on the walls. Explore the culture and delicate murals as you take a stroll in this sacred temple.

3.3. Wat Tha Som
Wat Tha Som, formerly known as Wat Sirapararam, was established in 1862 and is one of the oldest temples in the Tha Som subdistrict. The temple carries a long history and was designated as the 10th meditation centre in Trat Province.
On the temple grounds, the ordination hall stands tall enshrining the largest white jade Buddha image in impartial attire in Eastern Thailand. This significant Buddha image was imported from Myanmar and has been revered as the principal Buddha of Trat Province.
Additionally, Wat Tha Som houses another sacred wooden Buddha image in the Vihard of Luang Pho Mai. The wooden Buddha statue is estimated to be hundreds years old which makes it a highly revered artefact holding spiritual significance by the local community.
Inside of the temple, admire the stunning murals depicting scenes from the Buddha’s life along the walls and above the windows. Between the windows, you will find various paintings of gods, humans, Garudas, and mythical giants in celestial assembly style.
4. Live Like a Local
4.1. Ban Nam Chiao Community
Ban Nam Chiao Community is the perfect destination for those who wish to experience the local life in Trat. This community advocated ecotourism and diversity as it is home to people from various backgrounds including Buddhists, Muslims, and Chinese people living together. Due to the diversity, there are many activities for travelers to enjoy whether it be making palm-leaf hats (Ngop), tasting local dishes, discovering local markets, or exploring the old town.
As Trat is a coastal city, Ban Nam Chiao is famous for the fishermen’s way of living. Most locals make their living from fishery, rubber, and orchard plantations. Appreciate the local life of fishermen and experience it yourself by taking a longtail boat out to the estuary. Take in the views of Koh Chang from the distance as well as trying to catch long-tongue crabs in the shallower waters.
Nature thrives in this community with extensive mangrove forests and scenic nature trails throughout. 4.2. Ban Salak Khok Community
Situated in the southwest of Koh Chang, Ban Salak Khok is a simple village in Trat with a tranquil atmosphere. Many families in the village live in houses on stilts above the water earning their living through fishing and farming. This community also supports responsible tourism in order to help the sustainability of nature and mangrove forests.
Mangroves are an important part of the community as the villagers come together to work on projects of protecting and maintaining the local ecosystem and marine life. Visitors are also expected to respect the environment and follow the community rules.

5. Step Back Into the Past
5.1. Laem Ngop Lighthouse Hydrography Department
Laem Ngop Lighthouse is one of the oldest ports in Trat, located in Laem Ngop Subdistrict. This landmark is popular for its symbol of the “Eastermost Point of Thailand”, making it an iconic photo spot in Trat.
Despite the photography spot, there are some other things nearby that you can explore the area. Not far from the lighthouse, you may see a monument of King Rama V where locals often come by to pay respect. Right next to the lighthouse, there is the Laem Ngop pier bridge that is regularly used by the local fishermen. 5.2. Trat Museum
