Golden Mount Temple Fair is Bangkok’s oldest fair which dated back to the early Rattanakosin period. It is usually celebrated in alignment with Loy Krathong Festival. Then and now the Golden Mount Temple Fair has always been a much-anticipated event where more teens join each year and older generations would love to go as it greatly reminds them of the olden days.
Those days in which they were all looking forward to because they knew only this time of the year could bring them merriment. These are sound shows, Thai folk games, Thai ancient sweets and numerous kinds of tasty local food to relish. Fun and joy aside, here is a place to admire Buddhist temple murals, worship the Buddha’s relics at the Golden Mount – a gleaming gold chedi as part of Wat Saket situated on top of a man-made hill. Here too is where to see Bangkok’s flat terrain clearly.

How to get to the Golden Mount
To get to the Golden Mount, one of alternative transportation methods is by a passenger boat, which floats along Maha Nak Khlong (canal) to the last stop at Phan Fa Lilat Pier. Get off the boat, make your first left down Thanon Boripaht about 200 meters and you’ll reach there (Passengers can embark on a canal boat at both Saen Saep Canal Pier near Pratunam Market and Bobe Market Pier).
Those coming from Khao San Rd, just walk towards Democracy Monument, go straight past the roundabout following Ratchadamnoen Klang Rd, cross over the canal and make a right on Boriphat Rd and you’ll notice the prominent Golden Mount.
The brightest amidst Bangkok’s skyscrapers, the Golden Mount, as part of Wat Saket, is a gleaming gold chedi standing on an 80-meter-tall manmade hill. Before high rises were built, it was once the highest point in all of Bangkok.
To walk up to the summit, visitors must take quite sweat-inducing 344 steps.
At the foot of Golden Mount, there are flowers, incense stick and candles available for purchase and you can bring them to worship the Buddha’s relics up there.
