SHWEDAGON PAGODA
Pretty sure that if not all, most of the itineraries in Yangon Myanmar include Shwedagon Pagoda. Why not? This is one of the famous pagodas not only in the country but also in the whole world. The pagoda can be easily seen due to its striking golden hue.
Some say that it is already 2,600 years old which makes it the oldest of its kind. A visit here is a must since it is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in the country.
CHAUKHTATGYI PAYA (CHAUK HTAT GYI BUDDHA)
Most of the Buddha statues you will see are either standing or sitting. Here in Chaukhtatgyi Paya, the statue is neither doing that as it is reclining. The famous Chauk Htat Gyi Buddha is 215 ft. long with eyes made of glass and face covered with precious stones.
In addition, the original image was completed in 1907. As years passed by, it needed repair that is why it was renovated in 1966 and about 5 meters were added to the statue.
SULE PAGODA
Can’t get enough of golden pagodas? Then, add Sule Pagoda on your list! This pagoda is less known than Shwedagon but it is still one of the places to visit in the city.
Some say that all roads in Yangon Myanmar lead to this pagoda since it is at the center. It measures 44 meters high and is surrounded by bustling streets and colonial structures such as the nearby Yangon City Hall.
KANDAWGYI PARK
Even though the city gives off a busy vibe, there are still places in Yangon where you can find peace. Kandawgyi Park which contains the Kandawgyi Lake or also known as Royal Lake is one of the best attractions in the city.
The lake is an artificial one which glitters differently on day and night. Well, the best view here is during the sunset and you should definitely experience one!
BOGYOKE AUNG SAN MARKET
Usually, this market is known as Scott Market, its former name. The Bogyoke Aung San Market was built during the British colonial period where you can see a wide variety of shops indoors and outdoors.
This is a good place to buy Burmese items as well as souvenirs you can bring home to your loved ones. Everything you are looking for is here!
