WHAT IS LOY KRATHONG FESTIVAL?
There are many festivals being celebrated in Thailand every year. One of the biggest of its kind is the Loy Krathong Festival which is not only celebrated in one city but all over the country is drawing near.
The name of the said Thai festival originated from the word ‘Loy’ which means ‘to float’. While ‘Krathong’ is basically a Thai term that refers to a banana trunk embellished with different decors such as flowers, leaves, and candles.
Actually, there are many stories about why and how the festival started. Nowadays, Krathongs are decided to be made for several reasons. One of those is to worship the goddesses of water and ask for forgiveness. Another one is to bid goodbye to the bad luck of the past year and make wishes for the upcoming year.
In addition, the festival is celebrated during the night of the 12th lunar month which is usually November. Every year, the dates almost vary and this year, it will be celebrated on November 11-13.
